Common Questions

How do I create a float plan?

Simply log in, add a Vessel. Then click "Create Float Plan," enter your trip details, and save. You can also share it with your crew!

Can I update my float plan after saving it?

Yes! You can edit and update your float plan anytime before departure.

How do I add and manage crew members?

Navigate to the "Crew Members" section to add, edit, or remove frequent sailing companions. Crew Members can easily be added to the manifest of a Float Plan.

Where does Sailors Planner™ get its marine weather data?

We pull real-time tide, current, and wave forecasts from NOAA and the US National Weather Service (NWS). Thank you to NOAA and NWS, your work is appreciated.

How can I access my float plan on the go?

Your float plan is securely stored online and can be accessed from an internet browser while on the go. You can also share a unique link with your crew.

Vessels

How do I add a vessel to my Sailors Planner™ account?

Go to your dashboard and click on "Vessels". Use the "Add Vessel" button to enter details like vessel name, length, and type. Once saved, your vessel can be linked to any float plan.

Can I update vessel information later?

Yes, you can edit or update any vessel at any time from the "Vessels" section.

Crew Members

How do I invite a crew member to view a float plan?

Inside any float plan, within the Crew section, click Edit next to a listed crew member's name. Ensure an email adddres is provided for the person. Check the "Notify by email" checkbox/toggle. They'll receive a secure email link to view the plan details.

Can I keep a list of regular crew I sail with?

Yes! Go to "Crew Members" in the primary menu to build your personal crew list. When creating new float plans, you can quickly re-add familiar crew members with just a click.

What information is required to add a crew member?

At minimum, you’ll need their name. Optionally, you can include their email, emergency contact info or assign roles like Skipper or Navigator.

GPX Tracking

Can I upload a GPX file from my GPS after a sail?

Yes. After your sail, go to the float plan you used and click "Upload GPX Track". We’ll overlay your actual route on the map and calculate distance and duration.

What devices are supported for GPX uploads?

Any GPS-enabled app or device that exports .gpx files, such as Garmin, Navionics, Gaia GPS, or mobile sailing apps.

Checklists

How do checklists work in Sailors Planner™?

You can create a custom checklist once and reuse it across multiple float plans. Use it to organize safety checks, departure prep, or training routines.

Can I track which items have been completed?

Yes! Check items off as you go. The checklist will auto-save your progress for each plan.

Are there any pre-built checklist templates?

Yes, we include optional starter templates for safety, vessel prep, and overnight sails. You can also create your own from scratch.

Supplies & Provisions

How do I add supplies into the system?

From the primary menu, go to "Supplies". Click on the "Add Supplies" button. You can add food, water, tools, or safety items—categorized by sail type (day or overnight).

How do I track supplies for a sail?

Inside any float plan, go to the "Supplies" section. Click on the "Attach Existing" button. A list of the supplies you have added into the system will be displayed. Check the corresponding checkbox for a supply item relevant to the sail to attach the supply item to the sail.

Can I assign items to specific crew members?

Absolutely. Once a supply item as been attached to a sail, you can select a crew member responsible for bringing or managing it. This keeps everyone accountable. For each supply item, you can optionally track the status of the item (such as Confirmed, Packed, Onboard, Used).

Can I reuse supply lists on future sails?

Yes! You can re-use existing supplies for future sails.

Tokens

What is the Token System in Sailors Planner™?

The Token System allows you to purchase tokens that can be used to access various services within Sailors Planner™. This provides flexibility in managing your usage without interruptions.

How does the Auto-Reload feature work?

The Auto-Reload feature automatically replenishes your token balance when it falls below a specified level. You can set:
  • Notification Threshold: The token balance level at which you receive an alert.
  • Auto Purchase Threshold: The token balance level that triggers an automatic token purchase.
  • Auto Purchase Quantity: The number of tokens to be purchased automatically when the Auto Purchase Threshold is reached.

Can I customize the Notification and Auto Purchase Thresholds?

Yes, you can set both thresholds according to your preferences to ensure you receive timely alerts and maintain uninterrupted access to services.

How do I set up the Auto-Reload feature?

Navigate to your account settings, select the Billing section, then select Token Account, and edit your Preferences to configure your Notification Threshold, Auto Purchase Threshold, and Auto Purchase Quantity as desired.

Will I be notified before an automatic purchase is made?

You will receive a notification when your token balance reaches the Notification Threshold. Automatic purchases occur when the balance hits the Auto Purchase Threshold, based on your settings.

Can I disable the Auto-Reload feature?

Yes, you can disable Auto-Reload at any time through your account settings. However, disabling it means you'll need to monitor and purchase tokens manually to avoid service interruptions.

Is there a limit to the number of tokens I can purchase automatically?

You can set the Auto Purchase Quantity based on your anticipated usage. Ensure your payment method can accommodate the selected quantity to avoid transaction issues.

What happens if my token balance reaches zero?

If Auto-Reload is enabled, an automatic purchase will occur when the balance reaches the Auto Purchase Threshold. If it's disabled or the purchase fails, access to token-based services will be interrupted until you manually replenish your tokens.

How can I monitor my token usage?

Your account dashboard provides a detailed view of your token balance, usage history, and upcoming automatic purchases.​
